It is well reported in the orthodontic literature that ibuprofen and acetaminophen are the most prescribed drugs for orthodontic pain relief. Otherwise, there is an increasing of percentage of patients and/or their legal guardians that prefer alternatives other than the pharmacological ones. Add more, until the moment of the publication of the article of this presentation, there was no published randomized clinical trials comparing ibuprofen, acetaminophen and non-pharmacological interventions likely chewing gum for orthodontic pain relief. Could chewing gum be a non-pharmacological alternative for orthodontic pain relief?
