In order for orthodontic tooth movement to occur, inflammation and bone turnover are needed. Know medications, which decrease inflammation and bone turnover, that have been reported to decrease tooth movement. Understanding newer drugs, which quantify a decrease in bone turnover through a bone resorption marker, may give a guideline to anticipate how much tooth movement may be hindered.
Learning Objectives:
After this session, attendees will be able to:
Evaluate the many drugs that affect inflammation and bone turnover, both of which are needed for orthodontic tooth movement.
Identify which drugs, decreasing inflammation and bone turnover, have been reported to decrease tooth movement.
Evaluate other drugs, which decrease bone turnover, to anticipate their potential to decrease orthodontic tooth movement.
