The goal of this presentation is to enhance the orthodontist’s awareness of procedures that are used in orthognathic camouflage – restoring the external appearance of a normal jaw relationship without undergoing orthognathic surgery. Additionally, the speaker will address both the immediate and long-term aesthetic impact of the uncorrected skeletal dysplasia on both young patients as well as more mature patients. Finally, there have been several advances in orthognathic surgery improving the perioperative process for the patient: clear aligner therapy, virtual surgical planning, custom plates, and predictive imaging. These advances have increased the efficiency and accuracy of surgery, improving the patient experience. This session hopes to enhance the practicing orthodontist’s appreciation and options for patients with skeletal jaw dysplasia, the role of the uncorrected skeletal dysplasia on facial form, and new advances in orthognathic surgery that enhance patient recovery.
