Treatment planning in patients with severely traumatized maxillary central incisors, especially in children and adolescents, require comprehensive orthodontic evaluation. Many aspects including type and number of missing teeth, space conditions, occlusion and profile, patient’s age, cooperation with other specialists and patient’ opinion are important to consider. The key factors will be discussed in relation to premolar transplantation and orthodontic space closure. Various clinical applications will be shown to illustrate important details of the described procedures supported by available scientific evidence.
Learning Objectives:
After this session, attendees will be able to:
Identify the indication for autotransplanation of premolars to replace maxillary incisors.
Identify the indication for orthodontic space closure to replace maxillary incisors.
Evaluate the esthetic outcomes of premolar autotransplanation versus orthodontic space closure to replace traumatized maxillary incisors.
